Safety Management

DBD has extensive experience in Safety Case Management on major nuclear and high hazard projects through the full project lifecycle.

DBD’s approach is to undertake a thorough review of the all key safety documentation to ensure deliverable and appropriate hazard management strategies are put in place which, in turn, deliver fit for purpose designs and achieve regulatory compliance.

DBD undertakes Safety Case Management scopes of work for key Clients ensuring effective Safety Case Integration throughout the project lifecycle, from conceptual design to operations. We successfully manage the resolution of specific safety issues through our processes to align with the Regulator's requirements.

Security Management

DBD’s key experts in the field of nuclear security are able to support and advise Clients on all aspects. We provide both practical expertise on delivery of Nuclear Island site security requirements and security culture aspects associated with ensuring behavioural competence of the workforce.

Our practical expertise identifies the requirements of the regulator and the systems and processes that need to be in place in order to comply. It also provides best practice advice on how to implement the systems effectively and efficiently.

DBD has also written and updated the World Institute of Nuclear Security (WINS) Best Practice Guidance Note on Nuclear Security Culture, as well as presenting on this subject at the WINS conferences.

Environmental Management

DBD’s specialists are experts in environmental policy issues, having first-hand experience in assessing the impact of environmental challenges that arise on complex nuclear and chemical sites.

We provide licensing and regulatory support across the lifecycle of a project from new build, through commissioning and operations, to decommissioning and waste management and have in depth experience of dealing with environmental regulators and other Stakeholders.

We understand the fundamental drivers of key industry sectors, and work closely with Clients on a wide range of projects including:

• The development of a regulatory strategy and regulatory requirement arrangements for a potential new nuclear reactor

• The production of various BAT studies including chemical plant optimisation and choice of gaseous abatement option

• The discharge of radioactive liquid effluents from a large complex nuclear site

• The safe storage of toxic materials to reduce environmental risk

• The preparation of applications, and negotiations with regulators for both PPC and RSA permits

• The development and implementation of plans to comply with regulatory improvement programmes

• The development of waste and resource management strategies and practical implementation of the waste management hierarchy through avoidance, waste segregation, re-use of storage containers and residue recovery
